4.4% pay rise at Sainsbury’s
Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s yesterday announced plans to hike pay 4.4% for 135,000 workers this month.
The rise for shopfloor staff will take pay to £8 an hour – including workers below the age of 25. The increase, which takes effect on August 27, comes alongside a shared bonus across the group of £78million this year.
Boss Mike Coupe, pictured, said: “This is the third successive year we have awarded eligible store colleagues a pay rise of 4% or more, and recognises their hard work and dedication.”
However, it comes just days after proposed cuts to 1,000 head office workers emerged as part of a plan to save £500m.
