STANLEY STUNNER FOR NEIL

-

ACCRINGTON STANLEY pulled off the shock of the night in the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 victory over Preston.

Alex Neil, North End’s new boss, made nine changes from the side that opened their Championship campaign with a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

But Preston were left chasing the tie after Ben Richards-Everton (above) put the home side ahead after 20 minutes.

Jordan Hughill, Preston’s £4millionrated striker, equalised after 70 minutes.

But Stanley went ahead again through Jordan Clark with just four minutes remaining only to see Hughill level again in injury-time.

But Stanley snatched a dramatic winner through Billy Kee three minutes into stoppage time.

Wednesday came from behind to beat Chesterfield 4-1. Goals from Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher, Barry Bannan and substitute Sam Hutchinson turned things around for the Owls after Kristian Dennis had opened the scoring from the spot.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Piazon scored one goal and made the other as Fulham safely booked a place in the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers.

It is the second time in three seasons the Cottagers have won at Adams Park at this stage of the competition.

It may be August but Grimsby’s clash with Derby at Blundell Park was abandoned after just 19 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch. Derby were leading 1-0.

Che Adams’ first senior hat-trick helped Birmingham to an emphatic 5-1 win over Crawley.
