THAT’S REALLY GOING TO HURT, MOURINHO
Bale plays AND United are taken apart
JOSE MOURINHO suffered a double blow, as Real Madrid lifted the Super Cup and Gareth Bale moved further out of reach.
Manchester United were outclassed by Real as Zinedine Zidane’s side asserted their superiority in a convincing win.
Bale played his part in the victory, setting up Isco for their second, after the Reds boss (left) had declared his intention to try to sign him if the Wales star did not start the match.
But Bale did start for Madrid, seemingly damaging Mourinho’s
chances of snaring the £86million forward before the August 31 deadline.
Of the speculation linking him to Old Trafford, Bale said: “I’ve just been concentrating on my football. I’ve not been listening to anything and I don’t read anything. I’m enjoying my football and enjoying winning trophies.”
Asked if attitudes towards him within Madrid had changed, Bale added: “Not that I know of. I’m just concentrating on getting back to full fitness.”
Zidane (left) saw his Champions League holders take the lead through Casemiro in the 24th minute, with Isco making it 2-0 seven minutes after the break. Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for United.
It was Real’s second successive Super Cup victory, but third time unlucky for Mourinho, who gave his loser’s medal to a young United fan in the crowd.
