Champion’s rise to the top
AMIR Khan shot to fame aged 17 as he took silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He turned pro soon after, and by 22 had his first world title. The former WBA and IBF lightwelterweight world champion amassed a fortune estimated at £23million but continued living in his native Bolton. He is recognised around the world for his charity work and in 2015 received an honorary degree from the University of Bolton for his contributions to sport and charity.
He married American Faryal Makhdoom in New York in 2013 and they have daughter Lamaisah, three.
After their public break-up last week, Khan said he will focus all his energy back in the ring and would “get back on top with big fights”.
