CASEY’S READY FOR TRUE SLOG

-

PAUL CASEY has claimed the Green Mile will be a “true mile” with heavy rain increasing the length on Quail Hollow’s monstrous three closing holes. Storms are forecast for the last three days at the first Major played on the North Carolina lay-out. No.18 already is the hardest hole on the PGA Tour – and the course has been revamped and made harder since staging its last Wells Fargo Invitational last year. World No.18 Casey said: “The Green Mile is easier in May at the regular tour event because you get run on the ball. This time of the year you have to water the course every day to keep it alive but when you have thunderstorms every day, it is a true mile, a true slog. “The thing about these really, really long holes is you end up playing to the middle of the greens. You take away the element of guys messing it up because guys are going for the middle and with shorter clubs they go for the flag.”

No 16 Par 4 506 yards You blast it off the tee as far as you can but still have a long way in there on this dogleg. It’s such a long hole that you will just be playing for the middle of the green. You still have 200 yards so it is driver then 5-iron or 6-iron.

No 17 Par 3 223 yards The course’s signature hole has a green which is nearly an island. You can hit as much as 3-iron – it is a monster hole from the back tee – 208 yards to the front of the green. If they move it to the front tee, you can be hitting 8-iron.

No 18 Par 4 494 yards The brook goes all the way up the right. It is almost impossible to hit the green if you find the fairway trap on the right. If you drive it 300 yards from the elevated tee, you have got a 6-iron into a green between water and another bunker.
