Cameras for vets to check on slaughter
ALL slaughterhouses will have to install CCTV so government vets can check up on them.
Staff seen breaking welfare laws could face criminal charges.
Ministers said the move would ensure the Food Standards Agency kept the highest standards.
It is part of measures today from Environment Secretary Michael Gove designed to play down fears Brexit will lead to weaker controls.
British Veterinary Association president Gudrun Ravetz said: “Mandatory CCTV in all slaughterhouse areas will provide an essential tool in fostering a culture of compassion.”
