Del Boy: I’d be a Fool to quit
Sir David’s pledge to carry on acting
SIR David Jason says he has no intention of retiring from acting.
The 77-year-old star of TV hits such as Only Fools and Horses is still fired up by entertaining people. Sir David said: “I’ve been a television actor for over 50 years and count myself very lucky that I am doing something that I love. “People ask me, ‘Are you thinking about retiring?’. No, that hasn’t occurred to me. Different day, different challenge, different way – lovely jubbly.”
Sir David, who was also in A Touch of Frost and Open All Hours, added: “It’s not the arrival, it’s the journey.
“I will continue, I hope, to entertain the great British public, because that’s what I love doing the most.”
In the first of two shows to mark the 25th birthday of the Gold channel, he talks about how he nearly lost out on his most famous role.
Speaking on David Jason: My Life On Screen, he said: “There were doubts in some quarters about my ability to play quick-talking Del Boy. Despite the doubters I managed to get an audition – the rest is history.”
David Jason: My Life On Screen, starts August 26, 6pm. The Story of Only Fools and Horses, starts August 29, 8pm. Both on UKTV’s Gold.
