‘Blame the coaches’

GREG RUTHERFORD has blamed the host nation’s dismal medal haul on a lack of quality coaches.

Britain and Ireland are set to register their lowest tally at a World Championships.

And the injured Olympic long jump champion told BBC1: ”The support system, there is not enough of it. There is not enough coaching education.

“I look at my own event, I don’t really see much in the UK of top, elite-level coaches. There are some good coaches, but not good enough.

“What would be incredible would be the UK trying to bring in the best to coach the younger coaches we have got.”
