Rose must keep his head down

DANNY ROSE opened a can of worms by asking to be paid what he’s worth at Tottenham, and I can see both sides of the argument.

Rose has seen his mate Kyle Walker move to Manchester City for £50million, more than doubling his wages. And he will be challenging for trophies at the Etihad.

Spurs have kept the lid on their wage structure – and may have blown their best chance of winning the title after nearmisses in the last two seasons. If Rose (below) is going to win the Premier or Champions League he may have to go elsewhere to achieve his dreams. What is he going to win with Tottenham this season? I would suggest they are a better bet for one of the cups than the title. Is Rose good enough to play for Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea, who I believe will be this season’s top three? Yes.

Where he has been a bit naive, or self-centred, is perhaps the timing of his outburst, and obviously he recognises that because he has now apologised, admitting it was “ill-judged”.

He has just spent seven months out injured – and if I were in Rose’s boots, I would make it my priority to prove my fitness and re-establish myself in Spurs’ first team.
