PULIS: NEW SIGNINGS TO FOLLOW NEW DEAL

-

WEST BROM boss Tony Pulis insists he will have five new signings to celebrate his new contract with the club.

The Baggies head coach, 59, has extended his stay by a year to 2019, and believes his targets will be at the Hawthorns by the end of the transfer window.

Pulis (above) wants Everton midfielder Gareth Barry, Middlesbrough centrehalf Ben Gibson, and Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward, and Albion have been linked with Barcelona stopper Thomas Vermaelen.

Egypt centre-back Ahmed Hegazy, on loan from Al Ahly, and Jay Rodriguez, from Southampton for £12million, are the only arrivals so far this summer.

Other deals have failed to materialise as yet but the Welshman isn’t worried. “I’ve got full confidence we can bring in the players we need,” he said. “The chairman John Williams is working tirelessly to get those deals over the line.”

Albion are weighing up a third bid for Gibson, after being knocked back twice with offers up to £20m, but Pulis hasn’t given up hope.

“I haven’t accepted anything with Gibson. If we’re doing business with Middlesbrough, we’ll do it through those channels,” he said. The Baggies boss fell out with £13m record-signing Nacer Chadli and could lose him to Swansea, if Everton meet City’s £50m valuation for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

“It’s been publicised Swansea are interested in Nacer – if they are, we’ll deal with Swansea,” said the boss.

“Nacer is with us and I hope he stays. There’s no problem with Nacer.”

West Brom face a Bournemouth side likely to feature Jermain Defoe, who was on Pulis’s radar earlier this summer.

“I think Jermain had different options,” added Pulis. “He’s picked a good club with a good manager and a beautiful place to live.”

Gareth McAuley (thigh) and James Morrison (knee) are out for Albion, but Chris Brunt (calf) could feature.
