Just 20% of poor heading to university

-

TEENS from posh areas are still far more likely to go to university than those born in poorer areas.

On average, one in five born in England’s poorest postcodes go on to higher education compared with half from the wealthiest.

The study by charity Teach First urges Ministers to offer extra incentives for the best teachers to work in struggling areas.

Chief executive Brett Wigdortz said: “They are not given the same chance to reach their full potential, with less brilliant teaching and guidance.”
