Child killer all set for solo trips from jail
DOUBLE child killer Colin Pitchfork is to be allowed out alone from prison.
Pitchfork, 56, who raped and murdered 15-year-old schoolgirls Lynda Mann and Dawn Ashworth in 1983 and 1986, will be able to take unsupervised day trips in the “near future”.
The decision has been confirmed to the girls’ families in a letter from the Ministry of Justice.
Lynda’s sister, Rebecca Eastwood, said: “The news he is to be allowed out without an escort is a real shock. It all seems to be moving so quickly.
“We still think he is a danger to the public.”
Pitchfork was jailed in 1988 following Leicestershire Police’s biggest manhunt. He was the first person to be convicted on the basis of DNA evidence.
