17 face rookie assault raps

SEVENTEEN former Army instructors have been charged with assaults on teenage recruits.

The trainers, veterans of battles in Iraq or Afghanistan, deny all charges. These are said to include accusations that they held rookies’ heads under water and put animal excrement into their mouths.

An Army spokesman said: “We can confirm 17 former recruit instructors are to face court martial proceedings.”
