EASYJET: INSIDE THE COCKPIT

-

ITV, 9pm

Ignorance is bliss, so if you’re going on holiday this summer, perhaps you won’t want to see this documentary about trainee pilots.

“I haven’t actually done a take-off yet,” grins one rookie, who has just completed his pilot course. The unsuspecting passengers on board the flight don’t realise there’s a first-time flier on board – and it’s the pilot.

EasyJet is the leading airline in the UK, but with a shortage of pilots, they are training up 300 new recruits – and in one of many scary statistics, 70% of training is done on the job. This is stuff we didn’t want to know.

Elsewhere, nervous Ryan keeps muttering, “It’s so big” as he approaches the plane, but is excited to take a selfie in the cockpit. He and other cadets will have to take-off and land the plane six times.

And there’s Sophie, a rare breed with not many women going into the profession – something easyJet is trying to change.
