Fletcher: Pot shots off target

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

DARREN FLETCHER has dismissed the doommongers who are already predicting Stoke will be dragged into the relegation mire this season.

After just one game, and a defeat at Everton by the smallest of margins, critics are circling to suggest the Potters are among the favourites for the drop having failed to significantly strengthen a squad that struggled at the end of the last campaign.

But Fletcher, who joined from West Brom on a free in June, said: “I think we will be all right. People can predict before the season but I don’t think we will struggle. It’s interesting to see people writing us off.

“Yes, they didn’t have a good end to last season and obviously we lost Arnautovic who was a good player but there are a lot of good players in this squad.

“Our team will improve as well towards the end of the transfer window and we’ve brought in some good players already.

“We feel fine, we are not paying too much attention to the critics.

“Let people make their predictions, the day somebody predicts the Premier League right I will shake their hand.”
