SOAP UPDATE

EMMERDALE

ITV, 7pm The saga of the note continues as Emma frantically searches for it. So all rather hilarious when Finn presents it to her and goes to rip it up. Finally she grabs it from him and admits who wrote it. Will Finn get any more juicy details out of his mum?

Elsewhere, Adam spots Sarah wangling more money out of Pete and asks her what’s going on. Will she let the cat out of the bag about Pete and Priya?

EASTENDERS

BBC1, 7.30pm Phil and Ben Mitchell’s father-son relationship has always been strained to say the least. So you’ll feel a bit sorry for Ben tonight when he realises that the car lot, which Phil gave to Jay, is worth more than The Arches.

Fed up, Ben has it out with Phil, and in a shouty, tense scene, he asks him if he ever really wanted him in his life. More family fun elsewhere when Carmel hosts a dinner party for Max, Shakil and Kush.

DRAMA

TRUST ME

BBC1, 9pm Cath (or Ally) is deeply buried in her fake identity now, which makes her burgeoning romance with dishy doctor Andy a bit of a problem.

After snogging in a hospital corridor, Ally (Jodie Whittaker) scolds: “We can’t do this again, it’s unprofessional.” She’s hardly one to talk.

But there are more life and death matters at hand, especially when a patient starts fitting. “I don’t know what to do!” she yells at a colleague, who’s wondering why she lost it a bit.

You’ll spend this entire episode wondering when either, A) someone will suss her out, or B) she’s going to come to her senses and think ‘What the hell am I doing, this is insane?’ and give up her charade.

In the meantime, a man from HR is chasing Ally for her passport. And there’s a momentous discovery by Andy (Emun Elliott) that will make the week’s wait until the next episode feel like an eternity...

DRAMA

THE BILL

DRAMA, 11am It was one of the longest running dramas in British TV history, and now you can watch the lot right from the beginning. The show, which ran on ITV from 1984 to 2010, followed the cops of Sun Hill Police Station and is on the CV of dozens of actors.

Did you know Russell Brand, Keira Knightley, Emma Bunton and Paul O’Grady have all played extras?

See the first episode at 11am, and the second an hour later.

FOOD

THE BIG FAMILY COOKING SHOWDOWN

BBC2, 8pm Kudos to the TV producers who have come up with yet another cookery show, albeit with a slightly different format – just when you thought it couldn’t be done.

This one is all about home cooking and is the laidback cousin to the more competitive MasterChef or Bake Off. There’s chatting and sipping wine, and it’s all rather charming.

“The most important thing is to see them cooking with joy,” says top chef Giorgio Locatelli, a judge alongside Rosemary Shrager.

Presented by Zoe Ball and Nadiya Hussain (who is proving to be an absolute star on these shows), 16 family teams take on challenges in the studio and at home.

It starts a bit like Family Fortunes, with the Marks family and the Charles family all waving cheerily at each other while stood in a line.

Watch out for tonight’s star – 86-year-old Torun – who is more interested in telling Zoe about her boyfriends than cooking.
