Ref push nets Ron long ban

- BY JOHN CROSS

CRISTIANO RONALDO has been hit with a five-game ban after pushing a referee.

The Real Madrid star shoved the official after being sent off in his team’s 3-1 win over Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup.

Ronaldo got two yellow cards – one for taking his shirt off to celebrate a goal and the other for a dive – and then reacted angrily after being dismissed.

Real are planning an appeal and boss Zinedine Zidane says he wants Ronaldo for the return leg against Barca tomorrow.

Sub Ronaldo was only on the pitch for 24 minutes, but now looks set to miss all of his side’s domestic games until they face Real Betis on September 20.

Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea wrote in his report: ”Once shown the red card, said player (Ronaldo) pushed me lightly as a sign of his disapproval.”

The Spanish FA released a statement which said: “On the first account, Ronaldo will be banned for one game after receiving two yellow cards. On the second account, Ronaldo has been banned for another four games for infraction of article 96 of the disciplinary code.”
