Grenfell council cash inquiry
THE public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower tragedy will put the actions of the local council under the microscope, it was announced yesterday.
Kensington and Chelsea council have been accused of penny-pinching during a refurbishment that saw the block cloaked in cheaper cladding months before the blaze that killed at least 80 people in June. Inquiry chief Sir Martin Moore-Bick said he would also scrutinise how the refurbishment was carried out.
Joe Delaney, of the Justice4Grenfell group, said: “It is vital the inquiry... ensures that all those responsible are identified.” The inquiry starts next month.
