CHRIS HIT BY DOUBLE MISS
It’s a bad night for Leeds striker
CHRIS WOOD endured frustration on and off the field as Leeds and Fulham drew their fifth successive league match.
Wood’s hopes of a move to the Premier League were dented before kick-off when Burnley cooled their interest after Leeds rejected a second bid for him.
The New Zealand striker then missed Leeds’ best chance when he was denied after being put through one-on-one.
Ryan Sessegnon also played after Fulham knocked back a £25million bid from Tottenham for the talented teenager and he was booked for a bad foul on a disappointing night.
The draw maintained Leeds’ unbeaten start under Thomas Christiansen, while it was a third successive point for Fulham.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s classy side showed why they are being tipped to go up this season and they pushed Leeds back early on with their quick passing game. They deserved a goal and it nearly came on 18 minutes when Ibrahima Cisse thumped his 20-yard shot against a post with Felix Wiedwald beaten.
Christiansen also wants Leeds to get the ball down and play and they passed their way into the game.
Wood should have scored when played through by Ezgjan Alioski. The Kiwi tried to chip David Button, but the Fulham keeper made himself big to save with his arm.
Fulham suffered a blow when on-loan Chelsea forward Lucas Piazon went off injured.
Chances were at a premium and Pablo Hernandez wasted a fine one for Leeds when he struck a free-kick low into the wall from just outside the area after the lively Samuel Saiz had been fouled.
The home fans have taken to Saiz following the Spaniard’s hat-trick last week against Port Vale and he went close when he dragged a shot just wide.
Fulham might have nicked it 11 minutes from time, but Wiedwald made an excellent save from Sone Aluko.
