Great British stand-off...

C4 show’s timing clash with BBC rival

THE BBC has started a bun fight with Channel 4 over the scheduling of the new Great British Bake Off.

Beeb bosses were forced to move The Big Family Cooking Showdown to a new slot after Channel 4 said Bake Off would be on Tuesdays at 8pm, from August 29.

The BBC said moving Bake Off from its “traditional” Wednesday slot was a “cynical move” to pit it against The Big Family Cooking Showdown.

The show, fronted by Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain and seen as a copycat to rival Bake Off, kicked off on BBC2 on Tuesday, but will now be moved to Thursdays. A BBC spokeswoman said: “We don’t see any public value in two public service broadcasters going head to head in this way.” A Channel 4 spokesman said the decision on where to schedule The Great British Bake Off was made “a few months after acquiring it” and it had not moved. Bake Off aired on Wednesdays for three series on BBC1, but was on Tuesdays for four series on BBC2. Paul Hollywood is the only member of the original line-up on the newlook Bake Off. He is joined by judge Prue Leith, hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding.
