I could relate to the letter from the woman who felt sidelined at her cousin’s funeral, even though the two were very close (Dear Coleen August 14). A similar thing happened to me when my older brother died – his grown-up children took on all the arrangements after his death and neglected to ask my opinion on anything and didn’t ask me to help in any way, even though my brother and I were very close. Often a person’s immediate family has no idea of the importance of their other relationships. Like you said, Coleen, this woman knows the depth of her relationship with her cousin and that’s what counts. Bill, via email
