Think of Brighton and it conjures up thoughts of a buzzing party city by the sea. But narrator Philip Glenister warns: “Beneath it is a criminal underbelly.”

According to Brighton police officers, there is a lot of organised crime, robberies and stabbings.

Cue another reminder of our amazing emergency services, as this two-parter follows cops on the beat.

Tonight’s episode shows us a scary armed robbery at a betting shop, during which two masked men hold a gun to the manager’s chest and make off with the contents of the till.

Detective Sergeant Julie Greenwood is confident they will strike again, saying: “They get cocky, and think, ‘Oh we’ve got away with that one’.”

Meanwhile, after a six-month undercover operation, officers are closing in on a gang who they believe are controlling much of the class A drug supply in the city.
