MEMORIES OF GANDHI

What an excellent article by Dr Andrew Whitehead on the legacy of partition between India and Pakistan (Mirror, August 15).

I was reminded of the scene in Richard Attenborough’s film about Gandhi. As the riots rage, two followers on opposing sides ask him what can be done.

I read Kevin Maguire’s rant about the monarchy and, it seems, 79% of people who voted in your poll agree with him (Madeuthink, Aug 15). No doubt these people want to abolish the House of Lords too.
