BAN THE PHONE DRIVERS
For some time the Mirror has highlighted the danger created by motorists who indulge themselves by using mobile phones while driving.
Such behaviour is comparable to driving while drunk and blindfolded. Why are those in charge of road safety unable or unwilling to put a stop to this?
The present law isn’t enough of a deterrent. Instead those found guilty of using their phones at the wheel should get a six-month jail sentence, a £1,000 fine and a 10-year disqualification. The police should also be given powers to seize vehicles. This would make offenders think twice before putting lives in danger. L Bowie, Castle Vale, Birmingham
