Windies batters could really thrive in this series

SAYS SIR VIV RICHARDS

-

I THINK we can surprise a few people and come out of this tour smelling good.

I looked at the Champions Trophy and there was no better combination for that format than England’s team – and yet you still fell short against Pakistan.

Look at Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes. You guys have got the right stuff and then you fall down at a hurdle.

You don’t jump high enough, so I hope the West Indies are looking at that.

I believe playing cricket in England is the best place in the world – and this could be just the place for some of our West Indian batters to emerge. You must understand the requirements. Even if you are a great shotmaker, there are times when leaving the ball outside off stump is just as good as hitting a four.

I loved to entertain, but it is more important to last the five days than to be knocked out in three. Sir Viv was speaking at a Wicketz event organised by the Lord’s Taveners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity. Visit lordstaverners.org
