City plot a new bid for United old boy Evans

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

MANCHESTER CITY are weighing up a second bid after failing with an £18million offer for West Brom’s Jonny Evans.

The Baggies rejected City’s move for the ex-Manchester United star (left) and they are determined to hang on to

their skipper. West Brom rejected a £10m bid from Leicester earlier this summer and will play hardball with City, who are not used to being rebuffed.

Blues boss Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen his options at centre-back to provide additional cover for John Stones and Vincent Kompany and feels Evans is the right age and has the right experience.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis is loathe to lose the Northern Ireland international, who has two years left on his contract at The Hawthorns.

Pulis appointed Evans, 29, as captain this summer and sees him as a key figure in his dressing room.

He joined United as a schoolboy and spent 11 years at Old Trafford before being offloaded by ex-boss Louis van Gaal to West Brom for just £8m in 2015.

Evans has rekindled his career at The Hawthorns and Arsene Wenger made an unsuccessful bid to sign him for Arsenal last year.
