I felt sorry for the guy who’s being made redundant just as his wife is about to have their first child. (Dear Coleen, Aug 11). Both myself and my husband were out of work when we had our first child, although luckily we both had redundancy money to fall back on. It was still an uncertain time, but when our baby came along, we fell so in love with her and, strangely, our work situation didn’t seem as overwhelming. Her arrival also made us feel really positive about finding new jobs to support our family. I hope it works out for your reader. Beth, via email
