Conte suffers new Costa snub AND fails with £63M bid for Juve star Sandro

- BY DARREN LEWIS

BELEAGUERED Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has suffered a double blow.

The Italian has had a new £63million bid for Juventus star Alex Sandro rejected, and also endured another snub from rebel striker Diego Costa.

Conte is having a nightmare start to the season and is now struggling to add more quality to his Champions. He has made

TOTTENHAM cannot blame Wembley for failing to hit the heights of the last two seasons, according to their former star Jermaine Jenas.

Spurs will play all their home games at the national stadium this year while their new ground is being built.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who have ended the last two campaigns third and second, failed to replicate their White Hart Lane form at Wembley last season as they struggled in Europe and lost an FA Cup semi-final, sparking concerns the ground will prove a handicap again.

BT pundit Jenas, 34, said: “I don’t think they’ve got room for excuses, I really don’t. They’ve invested so much to be looked at as a certain type of club.

“Everybody knows they have to play on this pitch. Then they move into the new stadium. What are we going to say the year after? ‘Oh we’ve got a new stadium’. No. It’s an issue, but I don’t think it’s an excuse.”

Spurs play their first Premier League game at Wembley on Sunday against Chelsea and Jenas (above) said: “I hope they can change

the dimension of the pitch. It’s too big for the way they like to play.

“When you watch games at Wembley, very rarely does it feel like a Premier League game. Whether it’s an England game or a cup final it doesn’t feel the same.

“You watch games at the Emirates and it’s frantic and that’s what everybody loves. It goes to Wembley, all of a sudden it slows down.

“When you’re on the pitch, you get the ball, you go to do something and you’ve got more time on your hands because teams drop off, it’s vast, it’s hard to fill.

“Wembley will have an impact. White Hart Lane was a good place to play, so they’ve got big challenges ahead.” „BT Sport is where the best in sport go head to head, bringing you live coverage of the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Europa League, Aviva Premiership, European Champions Cup and Challenge Cup, The Ashes, Boxing, UFC, NBA and MotoGP.
