Two die in Finland knife attack terror

Ends with united roar of defiance Vital questions that must be answered

SECURITY Road blocks in Madrid DESTROYED How did police probe blast house? THE two attacks in Spain have thrown up serious doubts about whether – despite the obvious bravery of the police – they could have been avoided.

Once the dust has settled, the mourning for the dead has begun and those injured are making a recovery, many questions will need answering.

Perhaps most importantly, people need to know how the men were not stopped or tracked down after the explosion at a house in the town of Alcanar 130 miles from Barcelona.

It now appears it was a catastrophic blast that surely must have triggered alarm bells within the counter-terrorism community.

Given the high state of alert across Europe over fears an attack was being planned, what exactly was done by police to investigate the explosion?

Where did the 20 butane tanks found in the house come from and why did this purchase not raise alarm bells among local police?

Which – if any – mosque did the men and the remaining suspects on the run attend and did they show any sign of radicalisation?

If so, why were they not reported and put under surveillance?

Who are the closest friends and associates of those believed to have been involved, both in person and over the internet?

Crucially, were these men in direct contact with Islamic State? Had they fought in Syria or Iraq or even Libya? If so, why were they not on the police radar? And finally – and most chillingly of all – are there more plotters out there preparing another attack? THREE knife attackers killed two people and injured at least eight others in a suspected terror outrage in Finland

Police shot one suspect in the leg after the group – reportedly shouting “Allahu Akbar” – began its rampage in Turku, 100 miles west of the capital, Helsinki. One of the injured was a woman with a pushchair. Witness Laura Laine said she heard a young woman screaming loudly at the corner of the market square.

She added: “We saw a man. He had a knife in his hand and was swinging it.”

Bystanders tried to stop the attack – one using a baseball bat. Last night two suspects were still being hunted. Police warned people to avoid the city.
