GLENN ROEDER was starting his QPR career on the bench after joining the top-flight club for a large fee of £250,000. He had moved from Orient but was not felt ready to face European champions Liverpool away. The defender went on to skipper the side and make more than 150 appearances. He played for several teams, including Newcastle and Watford.
