No need to beware the Ides of Arch

SPURS STARS WON’T GET TREMBLY AT WEMBLEY

-

THE words Spurs, Wembley and hoodoo have been linked more times this summer than Philippe Coutinho and Barcelona.

Every pundit we’ve read, every fan we’ve heard, has trotted out the same old line.. that playing under the big arch will suddenly turn Tottenham into Aston Villa on a bad day.

We simply won’t fall for such an old wives’ tale.

OK, playing on a neutral ground isn’t the same as playing at home, but the idea that top performers like Harry Kane and Dele Alli will struggle at Wembley this season, is a flawed one in our eyes. This is the Kane and Alli who have scored more goals there than the entire probable Chelsea lineup they will face tomorrow. The hoodoo theorists point to Tottenham’s recent record at the national stadium. Last season, they lost to Chelsea last year, who were, of course, the champions of England. They lost to Monaco, who ended up the champions of France. They lost to Bayer Leverkusen, who had been the third-best team in Germany. Defeats, yes. But against pretty tough teams.

Spurs have already won at Wembley this season, beating a strong Juventus side, who just happen to be the champions of Italy.

So let’s forget hoodoos. There is something even more frightening – and that’s the state of Chelsea at the moment.

No Cahill or Fabregas for them tomorrow. No Costa, of course and a wafer-thin squad at Antonio Conte’s disposal.

Spurs are 23/20 with BetVictor tomorrow. Win it? Of curse they can.

Talking of scary things, Jamie Vardy looked back to his best against Arsenal and he’s a cracking bet at 7/2 to open the scoring against Brighton.
