SHIPSHAPE CARRIER
#The
aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth – identified as needed by our nation in the last truly strategic Defence Review conducted by Labour in 1998 – entered her base port Portsmouth last week. In an unstable and increasingly uncertain world, one in which there are threats from both state and non-state aggressors, and where the increase in terrorism, extremism, insurgency and cyber-attack has grown exponentially, this carrier strike capability cannot come a moment too soon.
We should all be proud. She was constructed by more than 10,000 highly skilled British workers from all over our nation and is a testament to what can be achieved by UK industry and our labour force when needed. Admiral Lord West, House of Lords
