Halifax hunt for 5ft ‘bone crush’ lizard
RESIDENTS are searching for an aggressive 5ft lizard which is believed to be sheltering in a park.
Police were alerted to sightings of a Nile monitor lizard, whose bite is strong enough to crush human bones. It came as a dog’s remains were found in the area. Local Ashley Skeldon, who also saw the reptile in Halifax, West Yorks, is leading efforts to snare it.
The animal rescuer, 27, said: “It’s aggressive. I’ve had to warn idiots not to try catch it as its jaw can break bones. They’re also full of bacteria. We’re trying to find a reptile vet.”
West Yorkshire Police confirmed they were called to findings of canine bones in the park on Sunday and had received reports of a lizard, but did not believe the incidents were linked.
