WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
BMI AND BODY FAT
BMI is the abbreviation for Body Mass Index, and it’s used to indicate whether your weight is in the normal range. Your BMI isn’t necessarily used to determine your general health in terms of good or bad, nor the actual amount of body fat you have or where it’s distributed. BMI is measured by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared.
BODY FAT is an important component of the body and should measure about 24% of your weight. The level of body fat is dependent on your gender and age. For instance, the fat content is mainly stored in the thighs and buttocks of women, while for men, it’s mostly stored around the waist area. Belly fat is considered “toxic” as it’s connected to diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
