Bank boss gets dug out of Hole

-

Bank of England Governor Mark Carney is skipping a key summit of top central bankers this week, sending a potential successor in his place. Carney is the only central banker not to attend the Jackson Hole gathering in Wyoming. A Bank spokesman said there was “no specific reason” for his absence. In his place will be Ben Broadbent, the Bank’s deputy governor for monetary policy, and a frontrunner to succeed Carney when he steps down in June 2019. Struggling chain Game has announced a tie-up with electronics store Maplin.

The video games specialist is opening concessions in four Maplin branches as a trial.

Game has been hit by weak sales. It was left reeling by the booming success of Nintendo’s Switch console after admitting it couldn’t get enough of the must-have gadgets to meet demand.

It emerged last month that Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct empire has bagged a near 26% stake in Game.
