GAYLE FORCE BUT ONE DAY AT A TIME

Joshua urges McGregor and Mayweather to show mutual respect and be pride of boxing

ANTHONY JOSHUA has urged Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to leave a boxing legacy after their super fight in Las Vegas on Saturday.

CHRIS GAYLE will ride to the rescue of beleaguered West Indies – but only for the one-day series.

The former skipper was recalled to the Windies ODI squad thanks to an amnesty with his board which has relaxed their selection criteria.

It means Gayle (left) will be in one-day mode for the first time since the 2015 World Cup.

The suffering Calypso side play five matches against England between September 19 and 29.

Joining Gayle will be Marlon Samuels, bringing the experience of 10 ODI hundreds to the line-up.

And also Jerome Taylor, who took 5-11 when England were destroyed for 51 in a Test at Sabina Park in 2009.

All three will improve the quality of a West Indies side that should at least provide a stiffer examination of England’s white-ball cricket than they have so far.

Gayle, 37, said: “When you look at the World Cup in 2019, it is pretty much around the corner and because I am busy playing cricket, you don’t realise how time actually flies.

“That’s my target – to play the 2019 World Cup in England and have some part to play.

“We don’t want to miss out on a World Cup event. It was sad what happened in the Champions Trophy with no West Indies team there for the first time.”
