Dear Coleen shy, it’s easy to hide away from the world. So there’s the first thing to address.

Your first action should be to try and lose weight and get healthy. You can start by slowly changing your eating habits, which I bet involve turning to food for comfort.

I know when I don’t feel good about myself I comfort eat, which makes you feel worse about yourself and the cycle continues.

The second step is to go out and get fit and as well as helping with your weight, you’ll also get to meet new people.

You could join a gym, or a running club, or go along to a local Zumba or yoga class where you’re sure to meet people. Be friendly and open and know it’s OK to be shy. You’re only 27 so you’re still very young.
