Damning Shoreham report can’t be used in court case
FAMILIES of victims of the Shoreham Airshow disaster have been left reeling that a highly critical report on the disaster will not be admissible in court.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch inquiry raised concerns about the actions of pilot Andy Hill, the show’s organisers and the Civil Aviation Authority.
Eleven people died and 16 were injured in the crash in West Sussex in August 2015. But police say that since the information in the AAIB report, published in March, was submitted anonymously, officers must corroborate any findings before presenting the case to the Crown Prosecution Service. Caroline Schilt, whose son Jacob, 23, was killed in the crash, said: “We’re as frustrated and angry as the police are.” Mr Hill is being investigated on possible manslaughter by gross negligence charges.
