Grenfell girl’s top marks in exam taken day after blaze
A GRENFELL Tower survivor who sat her chemistry GCSE hours after escaping the blaze has achieved an A grade. Ines Alves,16, who lived on the 13th floor, fled with just her phone
and revision notes and sat the 9am exam in the clothes she left in.
She also earned a top grade 9 in maths. But Ines’s overall results were hit because she missed four exams in the days after the fire.
Speaking at Sacred Heart High School in Hammersmith, West London, she said: “It’s good. I’m quite happy with my grades. But I wish I did more.”
Ines also got an A* in Spanish and her headteacher Marian Doyle said her results were “fantastic”.
She plans to study chemistry, maths, economics and sociology at A-level. Her family, who owned their flat, are living in a hotel, waiting for a permanent home.
One of the youngest successes, was Londoner Alexsha Monforte, six, who passed maths GCSE.
