£13 PINT OF BITTER
Uproar at craft ale’s ‘bonkers’ price tag
A BAR is selling pints of beer for £13.40 – almost four times the average price.
Defiant bosses defended the astonishing cost of their 8.2% ABV Cloudwater North West Double IPA, pointing out that it sells out as soon as it arrives.
But drinkers vented their fury on Twitter with one posting: “Bonkers! Stark, raving, bonkers.”
Richard Din - woodie, co-owner of The Rake in Borough Market, London, said the speciality beer was like “a fine wine”.
He added: “We’re not making a vast profit. We pay £ 130 for a 20-litre keg before VAT. You can also try before you buy. Craft beer is an affordable luxury like quality wine or liquid lipstick.” Manchester based Cloudwater was unavailable for comment.
