WHAT’S THIS PROCEDURE?

Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP)

-

LEEP is used to cut out abnormal cervical tissue with a thin electric wire.

It’s done after abnormal smear test results have been confirmed. A halo of normal tissue is removed along with the abnormal tissue.

LEEP is as effective as freezing therapy or laser treatment. If all of the abnormal cervical tissue is removed, no further surgery is needed, though abnormal cells may recur in the future.
