Cars 3 may have got lukewarm reviews from film critics, but for young fans of the Disney Pixar franchise the legendary Lightning McQueen remains a firm favourite.

Now robot toy maker Sphero – makers of the wildly popular BB-8 droid – has brought McQueen to life with the launch of an app-enabled remotecontrol car modelled on the lovable character.

With animated eyes, an animatronic mouth and touch-sensitive panels on the body, Sphero has done a brilliant job of capturing McQueen’s

perso personality, from his facial expressions to phrases like “ka-chow,” voiced by Owen Wilson himself.

But Ultimate Lightning McQueen is not for use outdoors, meaning you’re limited to driving it around the kitchen floor, and the on-screen joystick and controls can be fiddly.

While it’s more than your average remote-control car, it’s hard to see how it justifies the price tag.
