CHALOBAH GETS THE LAST LAUGH
WATFORD midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah took just five days to go from victim of a spoof call to the proudest day of his career – a genuine England call-up.
At Bournemouth last weekend, Chalobah (above) was tricked by the Cherries’ Harry Arter, who shouted for him to leave the ball when he had a goalscoring chance.
But as Hornets head coach Marco Silva celebrated the prospect of only the third permanent Watford player to win a senior England cap, after Luther Blissett and John Barnes, Chalobah, 22, had the last laugh.
Silva said of the former Chelsea midfielder’s call-up: “Congratulations to him – it is very good for us as a club, but firstly for the boy himself.
“He is a wonderful boy and has worked hard for this moment.”
Of the Arter incident, Silva added: “It is not the best thing to see. But it helps players to learn faster and shows we have to be ready for everything in a match.”
