SACK? IT’S NO WORRY TO ME TO BE FRANK

- BY MARC ISAACS

CRYSTAL PALACE boss Frank de Boer is not worried about his job despite being favourite for the sack race.

De Boer arrived at Selhurst Park with a huge reputation after winning four Dutch titles at Ajax.

But defeats in his opening two games in charge – at home to Huddersfield and, last week, at Liverpool – have piled the early-season pressure on De Boer.

The 47-year-old knows he faces a totally different challenge in England and has already identified today’s clash at Swansea as a must-win match.

De Boer said: “All I worry about is what is the best for the club and the team.

“I don’t under-estimate the job. I work very hard with all the staff around me. We cannot do more. I am convinced that we are coming very close to getting the points.

“Everybody wants to win the first game and we didn’t, then after two games we are still without points. Nobody likes to be in that position and we want to change that as quickly as possible.

“The Swansea game is a must-win, for Swansea as well as for us.”

De Boer (above) denies saying on the eve of the season that he wanted to get Palace playing the Ajax way.“I didn’t say I wanted to play like Ajax,” he said. “I play a different system to Ajax. I just want to get my ideas across, how we can deal against an opponent with a 4-3-3 or a 5-3-2 or a 3-4-3 system.”

The arrival of Palace legend Dougie Freedman as the new sporting director heightened speculation that De Boer is facing a challenge to win over the club’s hierarchy.

But he is adamant he welcomes the appointment of the former Palace boss and says it can only help to turn the side’s fortunes around.

The Dutchman said: “I have my ideas but it’s good that he also has ideas.

“He knows the club’s history and philosophy so I think it’s good that somebody with his history is sporting director.”

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is out of today’s match with a groin injury, while Wilfried Zaha is still sidelined with a knee problem.
