BANK Holiday Britain is set to soar to 30C as a warm blast keeps the rain away and make it hotter in some parts than Hawaii.

A rush of humid air from the Continent will bring welcome relief to millions used to the summer drizzle – allowing the first decent chance for a barbecue or seaside trip for many.

The two million revellers heading to the capital for the Notting Hill Carnival can expect temperatures better than Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where it is 26C.

Weather forecasters say most of the country will be bathed in sunshine with Monday expected to be warmest.

The warm and muggy conditions will make it feel close to 30C in the far south – by comparison it is just 26C in Hawaii and Turkey and 27C in Ibiza.

But there is a risk of thunder on Tuesday, so don’t put the brollies away just yet, weathermen warned. Jim Dale, of British Weather Services said: “We are finally about to see a change in the weather and apart from the North West, this weekend looks decent. We expect some of the warmer conditions coming in from France and on Monday temperatures in the South could reach 28C.

“In the sunshine it will feel quite hot with ‘feelslike’ temperatures of 30C – the low 20Cs are more likely in the North.

“But things go a bit pear-shaped in the North later on Monday.”

The Met Office agreed and said most of the country can look forward to dry, bright weather over the next three days, although the North will be cooler with temperatures between 17C and 21C. Met Office fore- caster Oli Claydon said: “It is certainly a more positive picture over the next few days as showers become less widespread leaving a brighter picture.”

The good weather was off to a sizzling start yesterday as holidaymakers enjoyed 22C on South Coast beaches, including Lyme Regis, Dorset, Bournemouth, and Brighton. The going was great too for racegoers at the York Ebor Festival, where it hit 21C. In Cambridge it was as high as 24C.

Bank Holiday drivers faced three-hour delays on the M6 after a truck crashed and shed its load, northbound between junctions 15 and 16, near Stoke. Two lorry drivers were taken to hospital.
