Mum says son is too busy to learn to read
A MUM says she is refusing to teach her five-year-old how to read – as he’s too busy doing other things.
Crystal Lowery, a US comic working in England, says she believes behaviours and skills that cannot be measured with exams are more important.
Ms Lowery wrote on Facebook: “He’s learning how to build. From blocks to sticks... he feels the weight of the different materials in his little sausage fingers and examines the physical integrity...
“He’s learning how to exercise. He chases the dog, plays tag, climbs on playground equipment...
“He’s learning important lessons every day. But he’s not learning how to read.”
Her post had a mixed response, with one user saying: “Agree 100%.”
