All bets are off for high roller Floyd

- FROM ANDY DUNN in Las Vegas

FLOYD MAYWEATHER tried to have a £300,000 wager on himself hours before his victory over Conor McGregor in Las Vegas.

Mayweather walked into a Las Vegas casino with his intended stake in cash and asked to place it on a win inside nine and a half rounds.

He stopped McGregor one minute and five seconds into the 10th round at the T-Mobile Arena.

The bet was not taken after Mayweather became impatient when the betting company officials checked whether it was within regulations to take bets from a fighter. In Nevada, it is. Mayweather would have collected a £155,000 profit from the punt but has a £155million purse to compensate.

McGregor looks set to earn around £70m when the Pay Per View numbers are added up.

That will dwarf anything he has earned from UFC, which is why he did not rule out another boxing venture.

On the eve of the fight, Amir Khan said he would be willing to take on McGregor in Ireland.

But that looks extremely unlikely with UFC president Dana White saying he would rather McGregor stuck to Mixed Martial Arts from now on.

And McGregor said the was looking forward to getting back to train in ju-jitsu and wrestling as he prepares to return to the Octagon.

He was happy with his showing, saying: “That was some buzz. I really enjoyed the whole experience, I relished every moment.

“I think I proved some people wrong. I am fresh to fight. It is not as if I was badly damaged in there... it was just fatigue.”

The event is likely to go down, at around £542m, as the most lucrative in boxing history.
