Day they made their millions

-

on “We realised quite early that we had very different always styles of acting. David’s or got a drink or a cup of tea his plate of breakfast. He’s the always whizzing around if we set. I suddenly thought both started doing that shot, we’re not going to be in so one of us better sit down or on and just sit at the table the sofa or armchair.” The day that Del Boy and Rodney finally became millionaires is still the most watched TV show in British TV history.

The episode in which they auction an antique watch for £6.2million aired on December 29, 1996, and was watched by more than 24.3 million viewers – the biggest audience ever recorded for a single transmission of a TV sitcom in the UK.

Fittingly it was because of their differences that the pair finally achieved Del’s lifelong dream of becoming millionaires, 15 years after they first hit our screens.

In the very first episode Del is seen chastising his younger brother for keeping receipts of what they own and “tipping off the taxman”.

But when they discover that an old watch they thought was worthless is actually worth millions, it is Rodney’s record keeping that day which enables them to prove it is theirs.

Even so, Del Boy tries to take the credit, saying: “Good boy Rodders, what have I always told you? ‘Always keep the receipts’.” with “He always identified more Rodney, but I think he had and Del elements of both Rodney character. Dad was a quiet in his man, somewhat introverted and more comfortable in the and and background, observing and taking notes. But, like thinking was also quick-witted and Del, he he had a big heart.”
