Cheques are going write out of style
ONLY one in four young adults have written a cheque in the past five years, a survey found.
Cheques are written by 75% of over-60s but by just 25% of under-30s, who largely pay online or by card.
The poll of 1,000 adults by Online Opinions found no one under 30 had bought a travellers’ cheque in the past five years.
It also discovered that giving Christmas tips to newspaper and milk deliverers, refuse collectors and others was popular with 63% of over-60s but just 17% of those aged 30-44.
Online Opinions said: “Technology has made the travellers’ cheque, postal order and chequebook obsolete for many but at least some of our older generation are not giving them up just yet.”
