I do like thwack Daniels

-

WHEN players like Charlie Daniels score the screamer he hit for Bournemouth against Manchester City on Saturday, I fall in love with the game even more.

We expect Wayne Rooney to score overhead kicks in a Manchester derby, we expect to see Sergio Aguero scoring worldies, but we don’t expect to see Daniels (below) fire in goals like that.

Such strikes are infectious, too.

Other players see them and think, “I’m going to be a bit more relaxed and try something like that in the next game myself”.

ISN’T it amazing how Virgil van Dijk, Philippe Coutinho and Alexis Sanchez develop little injuries when they don’t get the transfers they want.

Contrast that with Mo Besic (right), who learns his father has been shot twice, back home in Bosnia, and yet still shows the courage to play. The Everton player is the sort of person you’d want to go into the trenches with. He has shown bottle, desire and character, and he’ll get that paid back by the support he gets in the dressing room.
